Our Methodology
America and the World is a web-based, direct instruction curriculum designed to improve reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills in middle and high school students. Here are just a few of our advantages:
- Moving students from concrete to abstract knowledge – America and the World’s content lays the mental foundation for students to better understand chronology, graphing, direct association, and sharpens their abilities to compare and contrast.
- Continuity – Our direct instruction methodology is built around a comprehensive history, economics, and civics curriculum that gives students a consistent, familiar structure to work with over the school year.
- Retention – Our content improves retention by stimulating greater text-to-text connections.
- Multisensory activities – Students love interactive media, and we’ve got plenty of it. We introduce every lesson plan with a compelling video that captures the flavor and tone of the time period, grabbing their attention and pulling them in right from the beginning.
- Supervised practice – Every lesson is chock full of fun activities to develop retention, fluency, and vocabulary skills, including Hangman, Battleship, Jeopardy, the Memory Game, Win-Lose-Draw, and Charade and Shout.
- Key-3 Strategy – Each lesson focuses on key concepts drawn directly from Colorado State education standards.
- Two-column note taking – Helps students break down and absorb information.
- Improved study skills – Curriculum encourages more efficient use of study time.
- Improved test-taking skills – Lesson plans reinforce the most sophisticated learning objectives through long-answer essay questions.
